Chapters 1 and 2: The Beginning and the End:

Chapter One: The Alaska Interior
The whole story begins with "Alex" who is really Chris McCandless who is hitchhiking to the edge of Denali National Park, in the middle of spring with nothing but a twenty pound bag of rice. As Gallien drives "Alex" to the national park, he is trying to convince him that in the middle of spring with a twenty pound bag of rice, he is not going to survive, but "Alex" tries and tells him that he will be alright because he has done this kind of stuff before. Once they reach the national park and Gallien drops off "Alex" and starts heading to Anchoridge, he is contemplating if he should tell the authorities or not, and in the end he decides not to tell them.

Chapter Two: The Stampede Trail
The Stampede Trail, was originally founded by a legendary Alaska miner named Earl Pilgrim, this trail is the one Chris McCandless wanted to take and survive on. As weeks, maybe even months go by no one has heard anything about McCandless and his condition. Spring is coming to an end now that moose hunting season is here the hunters and a couple of ATVer's have discovered a rotting smell coming out of the bus. One of the hunters Gordon Samel, was looking through the broken windows of the bus and told everyone else that ".... there was a blue sleeping bag that appeared to have something or someone inside of it." Later as they stand there investigating the smell and what is causing it, when Samel went around the other side of the bus and peered in, he knew exactly what it was, and it has been dead for about two and a half weeks. The Alaska State Troopers came and picked up the body and took it to Anchoridge when an autopsy was done. They couldn't find out exactly when McCandless had died because he had no fat and his muscles were withered.

Maps
At the beginning of each chapter there is a map and an epigraph one of the eipgraphs is from a friend that used to know McCandless as they were growing up, and the other one is from Jack London a famous writer that McCandless liked. The maps show you where he has been and where he was planning on going.

Thoughts about McCandless
I think McCandless is a very stubborn young man who liked to try anything just to say that he has actually tried it. He doesn't like to take advice from anyone because he wants to do want he wants. Also, I think he should have taken Gallien up on his offer for food and proper gear because he probably would have laster a lot longer with the proper stuff for his adventure.
